World’s First FSSC 22000:2010 Certified Orthodox Black Tea Manufacturing Facility
Noori Tea Factory produces premium Orthodox Ceylon black tea and, in 2010, became the world’s first FSSC22000:2010 Certified Orthodox Black Tea Manufacturing Facility. This factory employs more than 60 people, while the estate itself employs more than 150, most of who are from nearby villages. Noori Tea Factory processes 10,000 kg of tea leaves daily from 500 small farmers.
Named after the first daughter of the factory’s founder, the Noori Tea Factory has been operational since 1928. Its creation was not easy. Thick jungle and hilly terrain resulted in a six-year construction project. Nevertheless, the owner, Francis Ademalai, believed the property brought good luck because of the birth of his daughter.
Located in the Planting District of Kegalle, the Noori Tea Factory is supported by the surrounding villages of Deraniaygala and Polgaswatte, where the majority of the population depends for their incomes on tea planting and cultivation.
Steady rainfall and fertile soils make this part of Sri Lanka an ideal location for a tea estate, which is surrounded by an abundance of flora and fauna, as well as gorgeous waterfalls.
